This lecture provides an introduction and initial understanding of solid-phase fermentation technology. The material provided includes the type of solid phase reactor, operating conditions and factors that affect fermentation, and aspects of design and modeling. Specifically, examples of the application of solid phase fermentation technology for the production of biochemical/food materials using waste biomass as a substrate will be described and its relation to the circular economy.
