Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) is organizing the ASEAN University Network (AUN) Summer Camp or AISC 2024 with the theme “Integrated Sustainability for Thriving Communities” for 2 weeks in an offline format. Through engaging lectures, discussions, company visits, community visits, and hands-on projects, students will explore various sustainability issues prevalent in Indonesia. Participants will gain insights into the challenges of implementing sustainable practices for communities, particularly in ASEAN countries.

About

ASEAN University Network (AUN) Summer Camp is a collaboration among AUN member universities, employing active learning methods to provide alternative solutions to issues faced by ASEAN member countries.

Topics

Theme: Transforming Cities: Innovations in Urban Living and Sustainable Transportation

As urbanization accelerates, the imperative to cultivate sustainable city becomes ever more pressing. This narrative delves into the multifaceted approach necessary to evolve a city into a model of sustainable urban living, while carefully considering both human and environmental factors. Several factors contribute to the advancement of sustainable cities, encompassing transportation, energy generation, sociocultural dynamics, and urban planning. Providing students with essential knowledge and skills is vital in cultivating responsible individuals capable of contributing to the advancement of sustainable urban development and transportation systems.

This course will examine sustainable urban development and transportation through a multidisciplinary lens. Firstly, the narrative uncovers the intricate web of sustainable mobility options that can alleviate congestion and reduce pollution in bustling streets. Moreover, the course will delve into the sociocultural dimensions of sustainable urbanism, recognizing the interplay between community dynamics and the city. Lastly, the narrative unfolds the importance of holistic city planning in shaping a city’s sustainable future. The course will be conducted in Bandung, Indonesia, a vibrant city rich with history and numerous potentials and challenges that await its residents. Through interdisciplinary discourse from international lecturers and field trips, participants will glean insights into the symbiotic relationship between urban design, transportation networks, energy generation, and environment. 

Theme: Bioresource Utilization and Management: Enhancing the Capacity of the Community through Exploring Natural Products for Cosmetics in Multi-Creative Business 

Natural products since a long time ago have been embodied into every human civilization. Not only sustaining human existence through foods and drugs, but they also play a role in embellishing our appearance by providing a source of perfume and color for cosmetics. The steady increase in natural product cosmetics rise the demand for bioresources. Through sustainable utilization, natural product cosmetics provide a mutual economic platform for both industry and local community. 

Through the courses, workshops, and community activities participants would learn and experience the vibrant role of natural products from bench to the industrial level. The courses would provide basic knowledge from bioprospecting to sustainable utilization and valorization of natural products. Furthermore, workshops would let participants experience essential and natural colorant extraction up until hatching ideas on utilizing local material for cosmetic formulation. Meanwhile, there will also be cultural and industrial visits to expand the horizon about the value chain of natural product cosmetics.  All and all, those activities are expected to fuel up participants for more ideas on natural product utilization and management as they come back to their countries.  

Theme: Business Modeling To Integrate The Utilization of ASEAN Energy And Mineral Resources

This program seeks to guide participants to be more aware of the ASEAN resources and potential, as well as pioneering integration utilization of its resources among ASEAN members to solve these problems common problems through cross-country collaboration. 

For two week, participants will receive material and knowledge from the seminar, participate in mentoring sessions, work on group projects, and move on exciting excursions to various places. In the first week, participants will be given material through seminars on finding life goals, problem solving, ASEAN’s earth potential, natural resource management in ASEAN, infrastructure development and environmental management in ASEAN, and information technology & renewable energy. In the second week, participants were given a group project to create a Business Model Canvas. This BMC is intended so that participants can utilize and integrate all ASEAN resources so as to create solutions to the common problems of ASEAN countries.

Application and Requirement

Eligible for all nominated undergraduate student of AUN core members, and non-AUN members.

To join, follow the procedure:

  1. Online application to Admission ITB portal and fulfill all required data and documents.
  2. ITB will request data verification and nomination from International Office at the home university.
  3. ITB will publish LoA (Letter of Acceptance).
 

Support Provided

Nominated participants from AUN core member will receive:

  1. Accommodation: A shared room for two-three person
  2. Airport Transfers on arrival July 14 , 2024 and on departure July 30, 2024
  3. Domestic Transportations for Site Visits
  4. Cultural Tour and Cultural Activities
  5. Certificate (will be awarded upon completion of 80% or more of the program)

Non-AUN participants are required to pay IDR 5 millions and will receive the similar supports, exclude  accommodation (number 1).

All participants are required to cover: Air Tickets, International Health Insurance, Personal Expenses, etc.
